To the U.S. Government:

This is an appeal for the better way.

Although generals of times past may have valued control of people and territory above all else--

and though historians of times past may have glorified the power and influence of a state above all else--

there may come a time in the future, as our world becomes ever more interconnected, when the state will be seen as the means to the true purpose of government:

There may come a time when the measure of a system of governance will be determined by how well it promotes the people's well-being.

A more lasting legacy may be left by those who build something that benefits all rather than just some.

Of more lasting benefit than the extent of any one state's military might or global reach may be the work of those who helped to implement a better way for all.

There may come a time when the world will remember where important contributions towards the dream of flight were first achieved, contributions towards a dream that would facilitate our world coming closer together as people, goods, and ideas would intermix faster than ever before.

There may come a time when the world will remember where important contributions towards the creation of the Internet were first made, contributions towards the creation of a vehicle for near-instant cross-world communication that would facilitate our world coming closer together as ideas were shared between more people than ever before, faster than ever before.

And there may come a time when the world will remember when a group of people would risk their lives to defend their dream of a better way against an empire's oppression--their dream of a land where the people's rights to Life, Liberty, and their Pursuit of Happiness were protected under a rule-by-the-people-themselves.

There may come a time when the world will see how U.S. citizens, with their rights to Life and Liberty protected under Law, would one day pursue and achieve their dreams of flight and near-instant cross-world communication.

And there may come a time when the world will remember how the ideals and values that inspired the birth of this country would spread around the world by the way of inventions this country helped to birth.

There may come a time when the people of the world, regardless of where they live, will agree on as the better way the necessity of the protection of the rights to Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness for all people, regardless of where they live.

And there may come a time when the world will begin to believe that a country that could help make possible the previously impossible dreams of human flight, near-instant cross-world communication, and rule-by-the-people that protected the people's rights to Life, Liberty, and their Pursuit of Happiness--

--could also help make possible a world where people do not have to die by the government's actions to protect our universally agreed to rights to Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness for all people, regardless of where they live.

Let us not forget, even as this country has welcomed people from all over the world to partake of and help defend the better way we believe in, and while over the course of the defending of which the world would witness the rise of a Superpower whose reach would stretch across the globe--

--that the foundation undergirding, the will empowering, and the true fruitioning of our better way after all derive their origins, their strength, and their legitimacy from those that the three words "We the People" represent, from our belief in the people's rights to Life, Liberty, and their Pursuit of Happiness, and from our belief in the people's right to determine their own future.

And so just as this country helped to bring about a better, faster way of transportation, which would facilitate our world coming closer together as one--

And just as this country helped to bring about a better, faster method of communication, which would facilitate our world coming closer together as one--

And just as this country at its founding contributed our belief in a better way of government, inspiring the rest of the world over time with our way of self-governance that protected the people's rights to Life, Liberty, and their Pursuit of Happiness--

Let us continue to strive to offer the gift--

--of our contribution towards the making of the better way.
